Samantha Lakin
Samantha Lakin is a Ph. D Candidate (ABD) at Clark University, the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Her main topic of study is transitional justice in post conflict zones, with Rwanda being her area of research. She is mainly interested in how memorialization of those lost in the 1994 genocide represents a form of justice to the different surviving groups in Rwanda. Furthermore, she seeks to understand how memorial sites and places of mourning can provide a form of healing to the community. We aim to gain a deeper understanding of the true loss incurred by those living in Rwanda through Lakin’s expertise.
In this interview, she provides an in-depth detail of what the word genocide itself entails, the civil conflicts of Rwanda, and the complexities behind the genocide, and the repercussions on Rwanda today.
Zahid Hussain
Zahid Hussain is a Pakistani journalist, writer and analyst. He has contributed to such prominent publications as The Times of London and The Wall Street Journal with his coverage of Pakistan and Afghanistan. His work has been recognized by several other international publications. In 1994 during the genocide, he was a reporter at Dawn.
In this interview he shares his thoughts on the genocide and the international climate surrounding it. We hope to get his valuable insight to produce a holistic understanding of the genocide.
B.K. Bangash
B.K. Bangash is a Pakistani photojournalist who has covered many events over the years. Not only did he document the Afghan war, he also covered the civil war of Rwanda as a representative of The Associated Press.
